When Polyethylene glycol (PEG) grafted density is very large, the hydrophilic performance is strong and the resisting protein performance is good, thus increasing the PEG is particularly important in the surface grafting density. In this paper, atom transfer radical polymerization technique (ATRP) was synthesized poly glycidyl methacrylate (PGMA) with a large number of reactive epoxy groups, and using "Grafting to" law on PGMA surface grafting PEG in molten state. PEG terminal hydroxy group is inert to the reaction, so using PEG having a carboxyl group at one end. In order to study the impact on the PEG grafting density to PGMA, the paper in that PGMA layer annealing respectively, the thickness of the PGMA layer of polyethylene glycol and carboxyl end PGMA’s reaction time and reaction temperature and other factors are analyzed and discussed. The main contents are as follows:1. By atom transfer radical polymerization(ATRP) synthesize PGMA. By gel permeation chromatography (GPC), infrared spectroscopy (IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-NMR) determine that it synthesize a target molecular weight and PGMA of intact epoxy groups.2. By melt esterification synthesized carboxyl terminal polyethylene glycol. By infrared spectroscopy (IR) confirmed the synthesis of a good stability and there is no occurrence of chain scission of the carboxyl end of the desired product polyethylene glycol.3. PGMA film obtained by spin coating method, and then use "Grafting to" method that grafte PEG into PGMA surface in a molten state. We investigate that PGMA annealed surface, the thickness of the layer of PGMA, carboxyl-terminated polyethylene glycol and PGMA reaction time and reaction temperature impact on the surface wettability, and analyze the impact on the PEG grafting density to PGMA. The results showed:When PGMA film annealed, PGMA internal self crosslinking reaction occurs so that the density of grafted PEG decreased; the film thickness of PGMA not increase the graft density on PEG; PGMA with PEG grafting temperature increases the the graft density, but when the temperature is higher than the temperature of the synthesis of a terminal carboxyl group of polyethylene glycol, self-crosslinking reaction between the terminal carboxyl group of polyethylene glycol and PGMA chain scission reactions will occur so that the grafting density is decreased; with the extension of time PGMA grafting with PEG, PEG grafting density enhancement after the first change.
