The Ultrasonic Impact Treatment (UIT), also called Ultrasonic Peening (UP),is an effective way to decrease the residual stresses on the welded surface by introducing of compressive residual stresses to material surface and welded area. This paper studies on residual stress elimination of workpiece after UIT with Finite Element Method (FEM) simulation. During the simulation process, impact force load is applied rather than the displacement load, which is the most commonly used in UIT simulation. The value of the force load, the distance from the heat source can be easily changed. Also, the load can be changed into a sine function, which is more matching to the actual load of UIT. The simulated residual stress results are in good agreement with the experimental ones, this proves the rationality of force load impact model. Based on the current researches on UIT, The idea of Trailing Ultrasonic Impact Treatment (TUIT) was proposed, the striker moving in a same velocity behind the heat source, which is more high-efficiency and energy-saving compared to the traditional impact ways. There are a lot of parameters that influence the effect of residual stress elimination in this method. This paper chosen impact temperature, impact location and impact frequency as research objects. The simulation results show that there is a temperature zone in which can get the best impact results under the same other conditions. In addition, the impact location and frequency of UIT also have a great influence on elimination effect of welding residual stress.
