Wire rope was widely used in coal, metallurgy, petroleum, construction, machinery manufacturing, transportation, forestry, ports and other industries because of its high strength, good elasticity, light weight as well as good flexibility. As always, the accident that caused by broken wires often happen t, it was the reason that the market was still lack of effective and reliable detection methods at present, people couldn’t grasp the exact relationship between damage and detection signal of wire rope, thus unable to determine quantitative relationship of the wire rope damage and residual strength in service. Therefore, it was particularly important to provide reliable basis for the quantitative relationship between wire rope damage and residual strength that the use of reliable testing equipment to test the wire damage, to extract the signal effectively, in-depth analysis of signal characteristics.In this paper, spectrum experiment and metallographic experiment was carried out for 72 A, 82 B, 304, 316 steel wire by use of spectrometer and metallographic microscope, its chemical composition were got, its microstructure morphology and grain type were observed. The relation between chemical composition, microstructure and strength, plasticity, toughness and other characteristics for these fore steel were analyzed, the advantages and disadvantages of four kinds of steel wire performance were compared, Come to a conclusion:72 A and 82 B steel wires were more suitable for 304 and 316 as the material to make wire rope on the strength and organizational performance.According to the principle of magnetic flux leakage, the different broken wires damage were tested through simulated experiment by use of the wire rope testing instrument MD120 B imported from Poland. Through extracting the test signal and analyzing its characteristic, the relationship was analyzed between the signal wave crest, wave width and the damage parameter of broken wire such as different number of broken wires, broken wire spacing and different wire diameter. The relation curve between the signal wave crest, wave width and the damage parameter of broken wire such as different number of broken wires, broken wire spacing and different wire diameter was got through data collection and analysis of test signal.Wire rope testing need multi-directional and sweeping damage detection, this paper mainly studied the relationship between detection signal and damage parameters of broken wire, to provide data support for realizing detection of the running wire rope, to provide reference for quantitative judging the relationship between the wire rope damage and the residual strength.
