In recent years, the frequency of sandstorms has been reduced, but soil desertification still tends to increase.Meanwhile, due to continually advancing urbanization, sand dust caused by desertification, smog resulted from urban pollution and other aerosol phenomena have influenced each other in many aspects, which even leads to a vicious circle. It is an important subject in the research of atmospheric environment to monitor particulate matter concentration in sand and dust environment efficiently, timely and accurately. In view of the price and performance of relevant instruments, this study develops a new system measuring the concentration of sand aerosol based on Sharp GP2Y1010AU0F sensor. This system, which has low production cost and high degree of measurement accuracy, can be used in the study of soil wind erosion and measurement of sand aerosol concentration.First of all, we introduces and compares existing measuring techniques of particulate matter concentration and their basic principles, which indicates that non-contact measuring technique of particles concentration, based on light scattering principle, has many advantages. Secondly, the physical principle of measuring aerosol concentration, which is based on light scattering principle, is given, the basic solution of Mie’s scattering concerning electromagnetic radiation of spherical particles is deduced, and then the relationship between the intensity of group scattered light and individual scattered light in granular system can be proved. Besides, the study focuses on the hardware and software structure of this measuring system, system correction and verification, as well as the analysis of the related experiment results,and applied to the measurement of particulate matter in a different environment, get better results.In the end, the paper forecasts improving methods and application areas of follow-up system.This thesis is of great value to the research of measuring wind-erosion amount in blown sand physics, and the research of measuring the concentration of smog and other aerosol in the future.
