Climate change has been widely considered to be the major problem and it is harm to future human survival and development. Reducing CO2 emissions has become a global consensus. Technology of CO2 capture, utilization and storage is considered a massive reduction technology that can be deployed in the future. However, as an emerging technology, widely deployment and application of CCUS is a big challenge both in technical and in economic. It is urgent to accumulate sufficient knowledge and experience toward CCUS commercialization and global deployment through large-scale project demonstration.Consequently, to study the contributions made by CCUS to tackling climate change, a variety of guidelines have been proposed to direct the development of CCUS demonstration projects around the world. This paper systematically identifies all sorts of factors affecting CCUS demonstration projects through consulting with key CCUS stakeholders and decision makers. Based on the consultation and combined with the CCUS demonstration project requirements, the paper has a recognition to the conditions for the development of CCUS demonstration project in China. Factors including project sites, preference of capture technologies and storage schemes are considered. This research can support decisions for CCUS project selections; meanwhile, it also provides the basis for establishing technical guidelines of CCUS project demonstrations in China.
