Organochlorosilane (especially methyl chlorosilane) is a series of important industrial raw material for silicone production. Great majority of silicone polymers are originated from polydimethyl siloxane, which are obtained from dimethyldichlorosilane (M2). Hydrolysis step is very important in the production process of transforming methyl chlorosilane into siloxane. There are two methods for M2 to hydrolysis:constant boiling acid hydrolysis and water-shortage hydrolysis (saturated acid hydrolysis).This paper introduces the development silicone-related research both at home and abroad. Besides, it provides information about product properties and usage, customers’ needs, and market price. According to the actual production process from Xinan Chemical Industrial Group, it analyzes and compares the differences of the constant boiling acid hydrolysis process and the saturated acid hydrolysis process in their mechanism and properties, as well as their key parameters of the two different processes in engineering.In the reaction mechanism, it concludes that constant boiling acid method lead to high proportion of ring product and low viscosity, while the cost of applying large amount of hydrochloric acid and unit energy consumption is quite high. However, saturated acid hydrolysis method could produce gas phase hydrochloride, which could be recycled in the whole production process and reduce large amount of cost. But this method would lead to incomplete reaction (high linear product proportion) and high viscosity.In engineering aspect, this paper compares the above mentioned two different processes in their key production parameters, including reaction temperature, acid concentration, circulation ratio, reaction residence time, operating pressure, raw material consumption rate, power consumption and raw material quality. We also examined the affections of those parameters on product properties, and acquired best production parameters for our industrial production equipment. Besides, relying on experimental data, it analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of both processes, and provides information and direction for further research.
