Liquid fluorine rubber is mainly prepared by emulsion polymerization and oxidation degradation method. Because of the preparation process of adding oxidant, the product can be prepared with carboxyl groups. The carboxyl groups in rubber molecular chains will seriously affect the rubber heat resistant and aging resistant performance. To solve this problem, the this paper will began to the inquiry experiments from the perspective of catalyst selection, which using metal borohydride composite catalyst to conduct the experimental study reduce the carboxyl groups to hydroxide radical. In this paper,the NMR, FT-IR and other methods of characterization are used to test the residual carboxyl content after reduction. Finally we found that using potassium borohydride and concentrated sulfuric acid composite system as the catalyst of carboxyl reduction can get the best reduction efficiency of the hydroxyl terminated liquid fluorine rubber. The other part of this paper mainly discussed the blend of hydrogenated nitrile rubber (HNBR) and carboxyl terminated liquid fluorine rubber, hydroxyl terminated liquid fluorine rubber. The study examines the vulcanization characteristics before and after aging of the mixed rubber, hardness, tensile strength, storage modulus and oil resistant performance in detail.
