Cellulose and its derivatives have some unique properties, such as abundance biodegradation and renewability etc, which make them attractive for conventional organic or inorganic support for catalytic applications. As a result, cellulose sulfonic acid has been widely studied as a biodegradable and a renewable catalyst. In addition, it is with advantage of high efficiency, easy-making, simple post-processing. In view of the above advantages of cellulose sulfonic acid, we used it as a catalyst in organic chemistry in our paper, and the main results were obtained as follows:1. The protection and deprotection of aldehyde carbonyl group were efficiently promoted by cellulose sulfonic acid, respectively with dichloromethane or acetonitrile as solvent. The present protocol has the advantages of simple work-up procedure, reusability of the catalyst and mild conditions.2. The Beckmann rearrangement reaction of a series of oxime were efficiently promoted by cellulose sulfonic acid under reflux in acetonitrile. The present method offers the advantages of short reaction time, environmental friendship and easy separation of the catalyst.3. The synthesis of diindolylmethanes were efficiently catalysed by cellulose sulfonic acid at room temperature in dichloromethane. The route provides the advantages of short reaction time, high yields and reusability of the catalyst.4. Microwave-assisted synthesis of quinazolinediones were efficiently catalysed by cellulose sulfonic acid in acetonitrile. The methodology provides the advantages of high yields, short time and easy separation of the catalyst.
