Ensure the quality of casting billet, the stability of liquid steel level in mold is a key factor. So, a lot of in-depth and detailed study about that have been done, such as nozzle angle, casting speed, immersion depth of nozzle, wide of billet, Which affected the flow behavior of liquid steel and molten steel level fluctuation in mold, have been done by water model experiments and numerical simulation or the two combined for many years. With the electromagnetic stirring technique widely used, it must be considered the liquid steel level fluctuation in the mold with electromagnetic stirrer affected by those factors. However, little research has been done.This paper take the φ 250 mm round billet continuous casting with mold electromagnetic stirring in a plant as research object, using the numerical simulation method that combined by electromagnetic-fluid unidirectional couple method and VOF mold, simulated the liquid steel level in mold. Intensity of electromagnetic stirring, casting speed, immersion depth of nozzle, the electromagnetic stirrer installed position has been studied, which affected the flow behavior of liquid steel and molten steel level fluctuation in mold.The results showed that the molten steel level was rotating parabolic with electromagnetic stirring, which was very different to that without electromagnetic stirring; when the stirring intensity is stable, liquid level fluctuation near the outlet of nozzle was increasingly intensity with the increase of casting speed, slag entrapment phenomenon appeared on it exceed to its critical value; remained the casting speed, the liquid level fluctuation near the outlet of nozzle also increased with the growing stirring intensity and slag entrapment happen if it is increased continuously; the liquid steel level fluctuation can be adjusted by changed the immersion depth of nozzle or the electromagnetic stirrer installed position, the regular is that the serve liquid steel level fluctuation and slag entrapment phenomenon that caused by excessive electromagnetic stirring intensity or casting speed could be remission by add the immersion depth of nozzle or the distance between the center of electromagnetic stirrer and the top of mold.
