The effect of clinical therapeutics of herbal medicines is definite, but development process of modernization, industrialization and internationalization of herabal medicines is impeded because the exact composition of effective components of herbal medicines is not well known. How quality control model of herbal medicines is investigated via effective components will be important significance to establish evaluation system of quality control based on integrity and whole effect of therapeutics of herbal medicines. So this paper is that, as the research subject to Houttuynia cordata Thunb., based on antioxidants of H. cordata, using means of modern instrumential analysis, explore new quality control model of antioxidants of H. cordata via DPPH? radical-scavenging activities of antioxidants. The results obtained were following:1. The validated methods developed for simultaneous determination of sixteen phenolics i.e., chlorogenic acid, rutin, afzelin, isoquercitrin, quercitrin and quercetin using HPLC-DAD were successfully applied for evaluation of antioxidants of H. cordata samples. Optimizational analysis condition: chromatographic colums Shim-pack CLC-ODS; Temperature: 30 0C; Mobile phase: A, methanol : acetonitrile(5:11), B, formic acid(0.1%), gradient elution; Analytical spectra: 345 nm; The methods obtained were showed that good linear behaviors over the investigated concentration ranges were observed with the values of r2 higher than 0.9990 for all the analytes, that relative standard deviation of good precision, repeatability and stability were not more than 5%, and htat the recoveries measured at three levels varied from 86.3 to 94.0%.2. Primarily to discuss quality control model of DPPH? radical-scavenging activities of chlorogenic acid, rutin, afzelin, isoquercitrin, quercitrin and quercetin. The model was established via dissipative concentrations of reaction of chlorogenic acid, rutin, afzelin, isoquercitrin, quercitrin and quercetin with DPPH(50 μmol/L) by HPLC. The result obtained showed that dissipative concentrations of reaction of chlorogenic acid, rutin, afzelin, isoquercitrin, quercitrin and quercetin are significantly different and that different system of composing chlorogenic acid, rutin, afzelin, isoquercitrin, quercitrin and quercetin influence their dissipative concentrations.3. Reliability of antioxidant activities of H. cordata samples and simulative H. cordata samples were validated using the quality control model established. Dissipative concentrations of chlorogenic acid, rutin, afzelin, isoquercitrin, quercitrin and quercetin of H. cordata samples and simulative H. cordata samples were comparatively analysed. The results obtained showed that dissipative concentrations of chlorogenic acid, rutin, isoquercitrin, quercitrin and quercetin of H. cordata samples were no more than them of simulative H.cordata samples, however, afzelin was opposite. This suggest, besides chlorogenic acid, rutin, afzelin, isoquercitrin, quercitrin and quercetin, other components of H. cordata have antioxidant activities, and antioxidant activities of afzelin affected other components.4. Otherwise, chlorogenic acid, rutin, afzelin, isoquercitrin, quercitrin and quercetin of 40 H. cordata samples from different site were analyzed. This result will be intended, in future, to supply evaluation reference for understanding and perfecting quality control model of antioxidant via evaluation of difference of their concentrations.
