In this paper, an aqueous transparent heat-insulation coating with ATO as heat-insulation functional material was prepared and applied on the surface of glass, cured at 170~180℃ to form a film showing hardness 4H, adhesion on glass 0 grade and good resistence to water, acid and alcohol. Influence of p H value, content of dispersant and grinding time was studied to prepare nano-ATO slurry. The results indicated that when p H=9, content of dispersant was 8% the weight of ATO and grinding time was 30 h, the diameters of ATO particles in the slurry were minimum. And the diameters of most ATO particles in the slurry still kept within 100 nm after being stored in 50℃ for 2 months. The heat-insulation coating was made by blending, when the content of nano-ATO in dry film was 9.62% and film thickness was 18μm, the heat-insulation temperature difference between painted glass and float glass was 7.4℃, the visible light transmittance was 69.65%. The results of DLS and SEM showed that nano-ATO particles were well dispersed without stacking and most of ATO particles in coating existed in nanoscale. The ATO coating was proved to have long-term heat-insulation effect by 3h heating and cooling test. And nano hydrotalcite could enhance the heat-insulation effect and UV resistence of ATO coating with the best content of 5%. The discussion on the influence of color on heat-insulation effect indicated that the heat-insulation effect of red, yellow, blue and green colored coatings were similar to ATO coating without colorant, the black transparent heat-insulation coating had a better heat-insulation effect due to its poor transmittance in the total range of 200~1600nm.The study on heat-insulation effect of building exterior wall coatings does not involve the influence of common fillers. And we discussed the influence of several common fillers on the heat-insulation effect of building exterior wall coating. The results indicated that when only one filler was used, titanium oxide, kaolin and hydrotalcite exhibited good heat-insulation performance, while ground calcium carbonate, mica powder and barium sulfate exhibited poor heat-insulation performance. When two fillers with good heat-insulation performance were used together by the ratio of 1:1, the heat-insulation effect was also good. But when one filler with good heat-insulation performance and one filler with poor heat-insulation performance were used together by the ratio of 1:1, the heat-insulation effect was poor. With several further experiments, we determined four formulas of general coatings with better heat-insulation effect. Based on this, composite heat-insulation coatings were prepared, the heat-insulation temperature difference with general coating was 6.9℃ by adding 8% hollow glass microspheres, 10% hollow ceramic microspheres and 4% infrared ceramic powder. And the composite heat-insulation coatings showed enhanced heat-insulation when compared to concolorous general coatings.
