In order to achieve the mechanical characterization of large area diffraction grating and improve the diamond cutting tool life, predicting the life of the tool with simulation is of great significance.According to the experiment about grating mechanical characterization,the stress data about the tool can be measured.Based on the theory of finite element analysis, the stress of single crystal diamond cutting tool of diffraction grating was analyzed with ANSYS WORKBENCH. The stress distribution of cutting tool is determined. Then on the basis of the stress data about the tool measured during the experiment, tool load spectrum is compiled. Combining with S-N curve of single crystal diamond, this paper analyzed the fatigue of the cutting tool with ANSYS/FE-SAFE. Eventually the fatigue life distribution of the single crystal diamond tool was got. The result, by contrast, conforms well with the diamond tool life expressed in the actual machining process. Thus the value of this paper towards the development of the fatigue analysis model and prediction of tool life is proved. for the research of high service life and high precision large diffraction grating curve cutting tool technology provides the basis. The basis of the research towards cutting tool technology of large diffraction grating, in the fields of high service life and high precision, has been provided.
