In the drilling process of directional well and horizontal well, cuttings bed, borehole trajectory which is not smooth, and poor performance of drilling fluid cause the increasing of the friction between the drill string and borehole wall, which leads to the decreasing of the hook load counterparted the friction between the drill string and borehole wall, and added on the bit. This phenomenon of backing pressure will greatly reduce the rate of penetration, which can increase the risk of drilling operation. The hydraulic thruster has been applied in our country to solve the problem of supporting pressure for decades, but that did not get very good effect, therefore, the design and research of new hydraulic thruster has a significant meaning.This topic comes from Sinopec Group Jiangsu Petroleum Exploration Bureau commissioned Professor Li Zifeng “the design of the new type of hydraulic thruster and drilling technology application research” project. In order to make up for the flaws of the domestic hydraulic thruster design, designing a type hydraulic thruster with a long stroke which can retreat back, summing up experience and through the field test, to complete the improvement scheme optimization.The design of hydraulic thruster with a long stroke which can retreat back, which fully considers the downhole complicated conditions, consists some necessary security design to reduce the risk of operation. Using Pro/E software to complete the 3D motion simulation, using 3D Printer to print miniature hydraulic thruster propulsion model, completing the work principle of validation.After the completion of the new type hydraulic thruster production for 43-3 Wells in Jiang Su oilfield, combining Directional Well Drilling Technology Software carried out by Professor Li Zifeng, obtained good results. After completion of the test and the inspection of the tools, suming up experience in fully. The hydraulic thruster improvement scheme was put forward.
