Zn O nanomaterials can be used as p H responsive target drug carrier because of p H-sensitiveness. Meanwhile, as a photosensitizer, Zn O can generate reactive oxygen species with UV illumination and help the killing of the bacteria and cancer cells, which makes them promising in photodynamic therapy. Thus, researchers have tried to apply Zn O nanomaterials in biomedical field. Nowadays, researchers focus on the fabrication of one suitable kinds of Zn O nanomaterilas which can fully utilize the advantages of Zn O and avoid the disadvantages. In this work, Zn O nanofibers were fabricated through electrospinning and the following calcination. Suitable parameters during these two processes were investigated and determined. DMSO was chosen as the solvent with a concentration of 0.73 g/m L and PVP(K90) was chosen as the thickener with a concentration of 0.1 g/m L. And the reasonable calcination temperature was determined at 690℃. After treated with aqueous solution, Zn O nanofibers gradually lost the original shapes to some extent. Thus, Zn O nanofibers were then modified by PMMA to obtain PMMA grafted Zn O nanofibers. FT-IR and 1H-NMR characterizations indicated the success of grating of PMMA on the surface of Zn O nanofibers. The XRD spectra during different period of reaction revealed that the crystalline structure of Zn O didn’t change after the modification. According to the molar ratio of Zn O to MMA, three different ratios(1:10,1:50,1:100) were adopted and TG tests resulted in an grafting ratio increase of PMMA with the increase of ratios. The photocatalytic properties of Zn O nanofibers were verified through the degradation of Rhodamine B. Under the irradiation by mercury lamp, the final degradation rate of rhodamine B with pure Zn O nanofibers for 16 h was 89.54%. With the increase of PMMA, Zn O/PMMA nanofibers showed lower degradation ability, indicating that PMMA would reduce the photocatalytic properties of Zn O. Moreover, a drug delivery system was built, taking Nifedipine as a model drug. The loading efficiency of pure Zn O nanofibers was 3.02±0.03%, while encapsulation efficiency was 28.29±0.36%. The drug releasing tests at different p H values confirmed that pure Zn O nanofibers maintain excellent p H sensitiveness, with a reasing ratio of 36.3% at p H of 7.4. The presence of PMMA enhanced the the encapsulation efficiency and the loading efficiency of Zn O/PMMA nanofibers, while weakened their p H- sensitiveness. The reasing ratio at p H of 7.4 decreased when the amount of PMMA increased.
