Printed Circuit Board router is a one of easy-consumable material in the PCB manufacturing industry. In recent years, with the expanding PCB market and rising labor cost, the traditional method of artificial processing PCB router can not meet the demands of market anymore. Therefore, the demands of automatic sharpening equipments for PCB router in router manufacturers become stronger.Aiming at the above problems, an automatic sharpening equipment for PCB router is developed. Machine vision which is used to calculate the tool setting angle is discussed. Meanwhile, the solutions and experimental test conclusions are given specificly. The following works are completed in the reserch:Firstly, based on the analysis of demands of market in router manufacturers and understanding research on automatic sharpening equipments for PCB router domestically and abroad, the significance of research for automatic sharpening equipment for PCB router is put forward.Secondly, the architecture principle of the equipment is proposed. Then, motion control system and machine vision system which are used in the equipment are designed. The selection of core components which are used in the two systems is discussed in detail.Thirdly, an algorithm is proposed to obtain the tool setting angle of PCB router. Above all, in the algorithm, region growing algorithm is used in thresholded router image to select the target region. Then, according to the different types of PCB router, Canny edge detection algorithm and Harris corner detection algorithm are used to obtain the feature points. Eventually, according to geometrical relationships between the feature points of PCB router, the tool setting angle of PCB router is obtained. The repetition accuracy experiments indicate: the maximum error of tool setting angle for PCB router in the same position is less than 0.370. The experimental results show that the algorithm can satisfy the requirement of actual precision.Finally, the device software architecture is divided into several modules. All of the modules are developed in Visual Studio 2008. After debugging the automatic sharpening equipment for PCB router, the information of the equipment in actual processing workshop is given. The original records of the equipment during processing show that: the average qualified rate is 99.82%. The above data proves that the automatic sharpening equipment which is researched in this paper has a good performance.
