Hot-dip Aluminizing (HDA) is one of the most economical techniques for coating large tonnage of steel wire. In the process, the pretreated steel wire was dipped in the molten metal of aluminum and passed through the coating bath. Then the wire was coated with aluminum. The intermetallic compounds of aluminum and iron formed at the interface layer between the coating and the substrate. The thin diffusion layer gave a strong metallurgical bond between the coating and the steel wire.In this thesis, preliminary attention has been paid on the surface pretreatment of the steel wire and the optimum selection of promotion flux. The kinetics of the thickness change during HDA, the formation mechanism of the coating, its microstructure and properties had been investigated.A kind of flux of 6 percent of KF solution was first used. Hot dipped 0.1 4%C steel wire and 0.21 %C steel wire were studied through V-shaped and vertical procedures. The result showed that the best parameter of hot dip aluminizing were the temperatures of the bath between 680-710℃ and the travelling speed about 3-3m/mm of steel wire. It also showed that the thickness of aluminum layer changed with the temperature of the bath and the speed of steel wire, the thickness of the diffusion layer changed with the temperatures of the bath and the immersion time. The corrosion properties was investigated by comparison with the aluminized wire, the galvanized wire and the steel wire dipped in sea water. The electrical and corrosion properties of aluminized wire are better. The research of the hot-dip aluminizing provides the necessary information for the further development of AS composite wire. In addition, It is very available for the advanced manufacture technology of the composite materials.
