Algal harvesting method was studied 30 mg/L chitosan was chosen as primary sedimentation flocculant. Scenedesmus sp. cells were immobilized on alginate screens for wastewater treatment. Under the condition of starvation treatment cycles, the effect of intrinsic and extrinsic factors on the purification efficiencies of ammonia-nitrogen and ortho-phosphate were studied. The results showed: cells in stationary phase of growth had higher purification efficiency than exponential phase; cell density in the mixture of algal and gel was the key factor compared with the thickness of gel and reactor cell density; starvation time had influence on removal efficiency ; S. sp. accomplished 9 cycles wastewater treatment about 21 days, holding higher removal efficiency. NH4 removal efficiency was 98.41% afterl05 mm of treatment 100% after 135 mm P043 removalefficiencywas97.67%after 105 mm 99. 71% after 135 mm in artificial effluent ; In secondary effluent , NH4 removalefficiency was 99. 1%after 105 nUn, 100% after 135 mm, P043 removal efficiencywas 100% after 15mm.
