Polydiacetylenes have attracted much attention because of their bigger nonlinear coefficient (1 O8é–Ÿu) and faster response (hypo-ps). Based on the theory of topology polymerization, only the diacetylene derivatives, which have a suitable substituent, can be polymerized by solid-phase topology polymerization method. In the dissertation, the principle and technology of nonlinear optics and the history and recent development of nonlinear optical materials were systematically summarized. The n-conjugated azo-compound groups which had a bigger two-order nonlinear coefficient were used as substituents of diacetylenes to increase nonlinear coefficient of polydiacetylenes and a flexible group was used to connect chromophore with diaeetylene to enhance the polymeric performance of diacetylene derivatives in the molecular design. Four new substituted acetylene were synthesized. Using copper(I) chloride as catalyst, seven novel diacetylene derivatives were obtained by oxidative coupling method. The polymeric performance of thesubstituted diacetylenes was investigated by changing different polymerization conditions and polymerization method. The influence of different substituents on the polymeric performance ofsubstituted diacety~enes was discussed.
