In order to solve serious pollution of flotation wastewater in our country, a new technology is developed, which is described as coagulation precipitation -activated carbon adsorption-wastewater reusing. It is based on the treatment of flotation wastewater from Nanjing Xinyang Mining Company. The mechanism of this technology is discussed. It has been proved by practical operation that all treated wastewater can be reused and does not have adverse effects on the flotation process of the mineral processing plant.Heavy metals and suspended solids existing in the flotation wastewater are efficiently removed in the coagulation precipitation process and the treated wastewater quality meets the demand of wastewater discharge standard set by our government. But the removal rate of CODcr is low. The optimum conditions of the coagulation precipitation is: KA1(SO4)2 =30mg/L, PAM = 0.2mg/L.The adsorption of powdered activated carbon can efficiently remove CODcr and reduce the foamability of discharge of coagulation precipitation. Though the CODcr of wastewater discharge after the adsorption is still higher than the effluent standard, the treated wastewater can be reused and does not bring a negative effect on the flotation results of sulphide minerals . The optimum adsorption conditions are that the addition of powdered activated carbon is seventy-five milligrams per liter and the adsorption time is thirty minutes.To prevent accident wastewater discharge, the oxidation of discharge of coagulation precipitation is studied. The results show that the CODcr of discharge is lower than the effluent standard. The optimum conditions of the chemical oxidation are: the NaCIO dose is 110 milligrams per Liter and the oxidation time is 30min.It is proved by practical operation that wastewater that is treated by coagulation precipitation and the adsorption of powdered activated carbon is reused to flotation process and dose not result in adverse effect. At the same time, the decrease of fresh water and flotation reagents creates economic benefit. The new technology has been successfully applied in Nanjing and proved to be efficient.
