Aromatic aldehydes and acids are important organic chemical materials and intermediates, which are widely used in the fields such as medicines, dyes, food additives and perfumes. However, traditional preparations of these kinds of aldehydes and acids, for instance chlorination of alkylbenzenes, cause severe environmental pollution and are limited in many countries. How to produce them without environmental pollution is very significant to large-scale industrial production. Compared with the previous methods, liquid-phase oxidation is characteristic of simple operation, friendly environmental and easy industrialization. In this report, liquid-phase oxidation of p-tert-butyltoluene for corresponding p-tert-butylbenzaldehyde has been studied. Under the optimal conditions(p-tert-butyltoluene 30.0g, acetic acid 120.0g, cobalt(II) acetate 5.0g, manganese(II) acetate 4.0g, sodium bromide l.Og, reaction pressure 6atm, reaction time Ih), 59% conversion with 76% selectivity for p-tert-butylbenzaldehyde is obtained. When it is applied to the pilot plant, similar result is got. Apart from this, liquid-phase oxidation of m-phenoxytoluene(MPT) for m-phenoxybenzoic acid(MPC) is discussed. Under the suitable conditions (MPT l.Og, acetic acid 80.0g,cobalt(II) acetate 3.0g, sodium bromide l.Og, reaction pressure 6 atm, reaction time 1.0h), the yield of MFC is over 95% .
