The development, fabrication and applications of slag glass-ceramics were reviewed. A steel slag glass-ceramics was prepared .by melting method with a total slag more than 50wt% including blast furnace slag and steel .slag. Other materials are mineral like quarts and nucleating agent C^Os and ZrSiO-i. The glass-ceramics shows a bending strength 276MPa, Viker-hardness of 11.9GPa and a wear of 7.5% as that of GCrlS steel. The phase compositions of the glass-ceramics were analyzed by XRD, the main crystallines are diopside( (CaMg(SiO3)2) and pyroxene (CaFe,Mg(SiC>3)2) . Microstructure of glass-ceramics were observed by SEM. The crystal size is about 1-2 u.m.Experiments showed that Cr2O3 can effectively prompt crystallization of the glass , the optimal content of CriOs is 0.4wt% , with the increasing of Cr2O3 ,theglass become hard to melt . ZrSiO4 increases both the nucleation and crystallization temperature, and can inhibit the growth of the crystal in the- glass. When no ZrSiO4 is added, the crystal size of the glass-ceramics is over 10 um.When 6wr%ZrSiO4 is added in the glass, the crystal size is less than 2um. With the increase of steel slag , the nucleation and crystallization temperature decrease and pyroxene crystalline become more according to the result of XRD . Reducing reagent SiC is good for the conversion of Fe2O3 into FejCU which prompts the crystallization of the glass. lwt% SiC is enough for the glass, and 3wt% can reduce Fe2O3 into iron .Quadrature analysis is adopted to research the optimal parameters for the heattreatment of the glass. Results show that the glass should be heated to 840℃ at a rateof 5~7℃/min ,holding for 1h, then heated at a rate of 3~4℃/min to 920℃. holdingfor 1h, then cooled in the kiln. The nucleation temperature is the mostimportant to the mechanical property of the glass-ceramics, and holding time fornucleation is least.
