Open architecture control has been becoming the essential requirement for modern CNC system. The author presents the advantage and disadvantage comparing to the traditional CNC system and illustrates the implementation of an open CNC system based on RTLinux.Currently, PC has been becoming the preferred hardware platform for CNC systems. RTLinux is a real-time OS with excellent performance. It can be used accomplish real-time multi-tasks scheduling. Therefor, developing an open CNC system based on RTLinux helps to improve the CNC technology in China.The software is the key of PC-based CNC system, and the research emphases of the paper are the software of open architecture CNC system. The hardware and software structure is set up through establishing the model of the PC-based CNC system. And by Object Oriented technology, the software ICs of module are encapsuled based RTLinux system. All these realized the Open architecture of the CNC.The paper introduces a universal CNC system based on software IC, Which is a configurable system with open and modular characters. Further more, this paper describes how to build a universal CNC system which is compatible with most of the famous CNC system with the technique of online configuration and the technique of software IC reusing.The paper also research on the DNC system, realized the network integration of hetero-structure NC system.
