B-MN is synthesized by the isomerization of a-MN in the presence of an environmentally friendly catalyst -HB zeolite and modified B zeolites. Catalytic activity of various zeolites on isomerization is investigated. The effects of modified method of ion exchange and rare earth on catalyst activity and selectivity have been investigated. Other factors influencing the catalytic properties of Beta zeolite have also been studied. The results of isomerization show that under selected reaction conditions and with the catalyst of HB modified by proper ion exchange, the conversion of a-MN is 70.02% and the conversion of B-MN is 96.7%.2-IP-6-MN is also synthesized by the reaction of B-MN with isopropyl in the presence of environmentally friendly catalyst-HUSY zeolite and modified HUSY zeolites. Catalytic activity of various zeolites on alkylation is investigated. It is shown that modification of rare earth, metal ion and silicon ester can influence the catalytic properties of zeolites. Other reaction conditions influencing the catalytic properties of HUSY have also been investigated. The results of alkylation show that under selected reaction conditions and with the catalyst of unmodified HUSY zeolite, the conversion of B-MN is 76.43% and the selectivity of 2-IP-6-MN is 76.30%and the content of DAN is 64.60%.The physical chemical and acidic properties of zeolites are characterized by NH3-TPD and PYD-IR. Their relation with catalytic properties is investigated. The results show that the concentration of acidic center influences catalytic activity and the characterization of strength of acidic center influences selectivity of the products. These also are effected by the zeolite structure. The separation and purification of the alkylation products have been studied. Pure 2-IP-6-MN is obtained and its structure is proved by GC,GC-MS and NMR.
