Because of the strong interaction between the trimethychlorosilicane and surface hydroxy groups of mordenite, silylation is used to modify mordenite. XRD? XRF?DTA/TG?FT-IR?N2 adsorption isotherms?water and hexane static saturation adsortion are used to characterize the modified mordenites. Silylation occurs in the surface of sample. IR adsorption peak area of hydroxy radical decreas markedly compared with the parent sample, and the range from 2900 cm-1 to 3000cm-1 appears a new peak which belongs to methyl. The quantity of the adsorption of water decreases obviously, but the quantity of the adsorption of hexane almost does not change, which show that mordenite modified by silylation is hydrophobic markedly.Mordenite relativly riches in aluminum which makes the surface of modenite hydrophili, so dealumination is used to modify mordenite.Mordenites modified by dealumination with Si02/Al ration from 14.2 to 38.1 have been prepared. Experimental results show that the quantity of the adsorption of water does not decrease very obviously, and the quantity of the adsorption of hexane almost does not change, for the majority of the terminal groups formed during dealumination still remains hydrophilic center.
