The on-line real-time photoelectric inspection system is a complicated system, which relates to photoelectric, optical, computer, electronics and mechanism, etc. It can be widely applied in tobacco industry, pharmacy industry, etc. This paper discusses the tobacco inspection system. Analyze the characteristics and selection principle of the key hardware, used in inspection system's photoelectric part and computer process part. Then the image data transfer scheme is presented. Through the analysis of the requirement of the inspection software, the module of software is partitioned, then the mediator pattern is applied to design the construction of the software, this design gain loosely coupling between the module. An image segmentation algorithm is bring forward, which uses the color valve to do pre-segmentation, uses the improved Divide-Merge algorithm to complete the segmentation. Also, the software, which builds and browses 3D histogram, is designed to facilitate the selection of color valve. At last, the parameter automatic generation technology is introduced, which based on the pattern recognition.
