Recently with the development of dye industry, a great lot of waste water appeared which is high concentration, deep color and complicated constitutions is ejected into the rivers and seas, and the water conditions are polluted badly. Because of the bad pollutions of the color, how to deal with them is the focus and the emphases that people care and research.Now the means of disposition for decoloration are used including the physical,chemical and biological means. Of the physical means, adsorption is the familiar means which is a attachment process from a matter to another. Concellous solid substances can be used as adsorbents, for example, the activated carbon, adsorption resin. In addition, cheap coal ,cinder and natural waste stock also can be used as adsorbring reagent. According to the action power, the adsorption can be clarified as physical,chemical and ion exchange adsorption. The three action constitutes the adsorption of the water treatment.Expanded graphite is a soft porous material which is produced by natural squama graphite by means of oxidation ,inserting,watering,dryness and expansion. It can be expanded to several times,even several hundreds along c axis. There are many pores which are formed on the surface and inside, meanwhile, the surface is increased to 50-200m2/g and the apertures become nonuniform. At the same time, it has the character, including low density, nontoxic, not polluting the environment, easy disposition and regenesis. So it is regarded as a good adsorption material.As a new environmental material,the researches on its application to adsorption have started, and the relevant reports on the adsorbing oils are more than that on the adsorbing dyes. Main contents in this paper:1. In this paper, the expanded graphite of different volume are produced. The structure and apparent performance are studied by means of UV,SEM,TEM, XRD,EDX,and received relevant informations.2.The adsorption and decoloration of expanded graphite to reactive dyes,direct dyes, acidic dyes was studied,and the factors including time, pH, amount, concentration, temperature are investigated.3.The mechanism that expanded graphite adsorbs dyes was investigated.
