3- a -furanacrylic acid, a very important primary material and intermediate of organic synthesis and medicine, has been synthesized by Perkin reaction with two new kinds of technology microwave irradiation(MWI) and phase transfer catalysis(PTC) in this paper. The traditional method is to heat the reactant compounds, which contained furaldehyde and malonic acid in the presence of pyridine. In this paper, many conditions have been improved, such as using acetic andydride instead of malonic acid and adding anhydrous potassium carbonate. The feature of the paper is the application of MWI and PTC, which had a good effect in experiments.MWI is a new kind of technology in organic synthesis. It has been known that MWI could greatly expedite reactions and increase yield. In the paper, the effects of different factors had been investigated, such as the power of MWI and reaction time. The experiment results showed that MWI could shorten reaction time greatly.PTC is a very important method in organic synthesis reactions. Through a series of experiments, the choice of optimal PTC reagent, PTC reagent amount and reaction time were investigated. The results showed that PTC had a good effect on expediting reactions and increasing yield.MWI and PTC methods were applied simultaneously in experiments. In this paper, many factors such as the power of MWI, reaction time, thechoice of optimal PTC reagent, PTC reagent amount and the molar ratio of furaldehyde to acetic anhydride to anhydrous potassium carbonate were investigated. The results showed that under the following optimal reaction conditions: the molar ratio of furaldehyde to acetic anhydride to anhydrous potassium carbonate was 1.00:1.75:0.54, the power of microwave irradiation 260W, reaction time 11min,PEG-1000 as PTC reagent, the yield of 3- α -furanacrylic acid was 59.88%.
