Luminescence materials have achieved much attention and play an important role in top-tech areas such as communication, display materials and recording materials. To meet the requirements in different fields, many kinds of luminescence materials including inorganic, organic and polymer luminescence materials have been synthesized and reported. Organic luminescence materials, due to their high efficiency and the wide range of the luminescence spectra, have attracted more attention. Among these organic materials, naphthyridines, which show good biological activities and are mainly used in medicines, are being focused on owing to their good fluorescence properties. In this paper, our study is mainly about the synthesis and purification of one kind of naphthyridines. This compound can emit bright red light.Via designing a series of reactions, we investigated the exploratory research on the synthesis and purification of the compound. It is found, that H+ may greatly influence the reactions about naphthyridines. After 2-methyl-l,8-naphthyridine has been acidified, a quaternary N-H derivative is formed. With excessive benzaldehyde under Ac2O, the derivative may gives two products which both take on good fluorescence properties. One of them has been acquired. By analyzing its spectrums of UV-Vis, IR and MS, we have gained its possible structure. In the spectra of UV-Vis, it is speculated that there is a large conjugated system. In the spectra of FL, it is found that the product radiates highlighted red emission, and the color is saturated.Besides, two copper(I) complexes, [Cu(tdpme)(PhenX)]BF4(1) and [Cu(tdpme)(PPh3)]BF4(2), have been synthesized. The complexes were characterized by single-crystal X-ray analysis, UV-Vis spectrum and luminescence spectrum. They show that both complexes are distorted tetrahedral geometry.
