It is important to study on the thin film gas-sensing materials, which used to monitor poisonous and inflammable gases at room temperature owing to seriously environmental pollution. In this paper, the thin films of tin oxide nanoparticles, copper phthalocyanine and its organic-inorganic nanocomposite were prepared by molecular assemble technique and characterized by XRD, AFM, UV-Vis and IR spectra. The gas-sensing properties of the films were investigated to methanol, ethanol, propanol and acetone at room temperature. The ordered SnOi thin films were prepared by sol-gel method and dip-coating technique. The films had good gas-sensing properties to alcohols and acetone at room temperature. The composite thin films of copper phthalocyanine embedding SnO2 nanoparticles were obtained by spin-coating and LB techniques. The gas-sensing experiments illustrated that the sensitivity of spin-coated composite films to alcohols was much higher than that of pure CuPc films, and could detect at the concentration as low as 4ppm of propanol gas. Molecular orientation of copper phthalocyanine LB films was studied by polarized UV-Vis spectra, indicating that the phthalocyanine macrocycle was arranged . The existence of the nanoparticles increased the sensitivity of the composite LB films and decreased response-recovery time to alcohols.
