Bath temperature, liquidus temperature and cryolite Ratio are important parameters in Hall-Heroult for aluminum electrolysis. Low liquidus temperature enables low bath temperature. The current efficiency increases with the decreasing of bath temperature. Due to the high temperature and the corrosive nature of the complicated bath, it is difficult to determine the parameters of the aluminum electrolyte. It has become an important task to measure the bath temperature, the liquidus temperature and the cryolite ratio correctly and quickly.Great deals of actual samples of the aluminum electrolyte were analyzed. The liquidus temperatures were determined by a method of the cooling curve. Models about the relationships of the liquidus temperature with the bath components and the cryolite ratio in the bath systems were obtained, and other parameters, such as the cryolite ratio, was deduced after a computer dealing with the models according to the result of the liquidus temperature determination. Some experiments about materials of sensors and crucibles resistant to the bath were also carried out. The suitable sensor and crucible were selected out for the use in liquidus temperature measurement. An analytical instrument named In-situ Analytic Apparatus of Aluminum Electrolyte was made. It has the ability of controlling the temperature, analyzing the data, displaying and putting-out.The apparatus contacts the temperature with the cryolite ratio. Using this device one can gain the liquidus temperature of the bath, the deducing cryolite ratio and the contents of the components quickly. The error of temperature determination is ?2 癈. The error of deducing cryolite ratio is ?. 03 癈. It has been on probation in several aluminum industries and the results were satisfactory. The apparatus solves the problem of continual temperature determination and direct controlling of cryolite ratio.
