The ball mill is a kind of machinery that is very important and used extensively in a lot of trades such as construction materials, metallurgy and ore dressing, etc. Many large ball mills conked frequently in our country. Especially, the barrel welds often flawed, which influenced production seriously, and caused the great economic losses. Accordingly, it is very important and significative to calculate the stress of the barrel especially in the dangerous position, and to predict its crackle expanding speed and its surplus life-span. The analysis and study was aiming at No.l ball mill of the Yongping copper mine, Jiangxi copper industry Company. In this paper, a detailed analysis for the state of the ball mill is carried on firstly, then the stress of the ball mill was analyzed and calculated by dividing into many 10 nodal units according to the finite element simulation method of three-dimensional space. Moreover, a finite element simulation to the ball mill tube was done by using the finite element software-ANSYS which was most popular at present. That was aiming at the stress of the ball mill tube. With its strong function of post processor, various kinds of colored atlases about stress, distortion and displacement were protracted. In succession, analysis of some complication which was about the expand law of the crackle and the influence factors of the expansion of the crackle was made, A forecast of the speed of the crackle's expansion was drawn. As a result the approximate remain life-span was obtained by calculating the circulation times from the initial crackle to critical crackle.Through analyzing the working condition of the ball mill detailedly, one new loading method was adopted that can suit the ball mill even more, the result of calculation indicates that this kind of analytical method isimproved greatly. While analyzing the crackie of the ball mill, in order to forecast the expansion speed of the crackle and the surplus life-span of the ball mill tube, some relevant theory of fracture mechanics was combined with finite element analysis for the first time, this is a better way with practical innovation.The experiment in this paper verified effectively that the method was right and the conclusion of this paper was credible.
