In this paper, three kinds of organic ink absorbents which werepoly(vinyl alcohol) modified by acryl amide, poly(vinyl alcohol)modified by crylic acid and poly(vinyl alcohol) by acryl amide and crylicacid and one kind of inorganic ink absorbent which was silica weresynthesized, and the effects of the coating layer on ink absorption rateand definition were studied. At the same time, the ink absorptionmechanism on organic ink absorbent also was studied, the specific workwere as follows: 1. In the copolymerization, some experiments were made todetermine the effects of the time, the concentration of the monomer andthe dosage of solicitation reagent to the reaction, and the best conditionsof reaction were found. When silica was synthesized, the effects ofdifferent react temperature, the concentration of sodium silicate and theconcentration of sulfuric acid on the structure of silica were studied. Atthe same time, the structure of each products were identified by IR. 2. In the single-componential coating layer, the ink absorptionproperty of three kinds of modified poly(vinyl alcohol) were compared, and the effect of molecular weight on ink absorption property anddefinition was studied. 3. In the double-componential coating layer which was composed ofinorganic ink absorbent and organic ink absorbent, the effects of differentratio between silica and resin , the average granule size of silica, thespecific surface area of silica and the ball billing time on ink absorptionproperty were studied. At the same time, in the double-componentialcoating layer which was composed of two kinds of organic ink absorbent, the effect of different resin ration on ink absorption and definition wasstudied. 4. The ink absorption mechanism on organic ink absorbent wasstudied. The results showed that in the single-componential coating layer ,theink absorption property of poly(vinyl alcohol) by acryl amide and crylicacid was the best, and when the comonomer ratio was 1:6:30 and themolecular weight was about ninety thousand, the ink absorption ratecould reach 18.16 seconds and the definition was 1.06. In thedouble-componential coating layer, the ink absorption property of thecoating layer which was composed of inorganic ink absorbent andorganic ink absorbent was superior to that of the coating layer which wascomposed of two kinds of organic ink absorbent, and when the ratiobetween silica and resin was about 2.5, the granule size varies from 4.3micron meter to 4.7 micron meter ,the specific surface area of silica wasabout 384 m2/g and the ball billing time was about four to five hours, theink absorption rate of the coating layer was 13.6 seconds . From aboveanalysis, the ink absorption property of the coating layer which wascomposed of inorganic ink absorbent and organic ink absorbent was thebest. When the ink absorption mechanism on organic ink absorbent wasstudied, the theory about hydrogenous bond force, directional force andpolar force illustrated that the ink absorption property of poly(vinylalcohol) modified by acryl amide was the best. This paper was the fundament to developing ink-jet printingmaterials, and there was instructive meaning in the research results of thispaper for exploiting and exerting ink-jet printing materials.
