Chloromethane is an important material to produce organic silicon (Methyl chlorosilicons), cellulose, quaternary ammonium compounds, weedicide. The methods in producing are gas-liquid phase non- catalysis, gas-liquid phase catalysis, gas-solid phase catalysis.Dow Chemical Corporation only uses gas-liquid phase non-catalysis. The method's characteristics are: the conversion rate of Methanol is higher, the consumption is approximate calculated value, the select rate of Chloromethane is higher, the reactant has high purity and by-product is little, and do not be distillated. The method is suitable to large-scale production. But the method has some shortages; such as equipment need better material. The reactant contains several azeotopic mixtures, then it must be treated. Otherwise, the reaction is very slowly, so it needs larger reaction space.Now, the most factories in China use gas-liquid phase catalysis to produce Chloromethane. The method's characteristics are: process flow is simple, the capacity of a set is lower, and factory's area is larger; it is difficult to magnify for single level-reactor, the equipment is corrodes heavily, the consumption is high, and reactant contains more by-product Dimethyl ether.The method of gas-solid phase catalysis is developed in 60's. The method is suitable for large-scale plan. The consumption of methanol is approximate calculated value, the select rate of Chloromethane is higher, corrosion is lower, and the material of equipment is commonly. But, it has some disadvantage, such as: the catalyst must be changed tremble, the concentration of Dimethyl ether in reactant is higher than other, water must be lest in the feed material.Now, the method of compassion Chloromethane by gas-solid phase catalysis bas not studied, and this blocks the development for organic silicon industry in China. The kinetics equation of gas-solid phase catalysis is summarized in this paper and the optimal process parameters are obtained. These will give us basic dates for building the plan of production Chloromethane by gas-solid phase catalysis.
