In recent years,our domestic railway administation departments began to improve the speed of the trains in ouder to meet the needs of market development.Thereafter,high speed running and heaveily loading will become the developing direction of railway market in the nearly future. With the great raising of the speed,it becomes a very important problem which should be solved urgently to apply the brake promptly .As an important hardware of the braking process,the brake shoe plays a key role to improve the locomotive's braking capability.it concerns the safety of railway transportation directyly.This paper describes the character of powder metallurgy material.lt discusses how to improve and steady the friction coefficient of the powder metallurgy brake shoe and how to strengthen its ability of wearability ,heat resistance and anticorrosive.By material analysis, prescription contrast and market research , we finally find the powder metallurgy material prescription of brake shoe , which adapt to the market demand better. On this basis, we made the mould structure and the production technology through a great deal of theoretical calculating and trial-producing and produce some brake shoe samples already . After the 1:1 bench test, single machine breaking test and manufacture process test, we make a sort of brake shoe that is adapted to locomotive whose max speed is less than 160km/h.
