Quantitative Fracture Analysis is a new subject developed from the recent years, its main purpose is to show the information of fracture surface in the form of parameters, and then combines it with the deforming of material, fracture mechanism and the organizing properties of material so as to analyze its fracture properties from the fracture of destroyed material. In 1984, Mandelbrot first analyzed the irregularity of metal fracture quantitatively by using fractal method and predicted that the fractal dimension could be used as the parameter of fracture surface geographical characteristics. Later Academias begin to pay attention to the research of adopting fractal dimension to the quantitative description of the metal section and puts forward many methods to analyze the fractal dimension of metal fracture. These methods have been verified in the actual practice. But most of these measurement methods take metal fracture as the measuring object, destroy the metal fracture surface as the base, also these measuring methods have high requirement on the equipment, period, capital and personal ability. As to the problems above, the text put forwards the fractal dimension calculation based on 3-dimension reconstruction. The method takes the electronic microscope image as the researching object, using the 3D reconstruction technology to reconstruct the 3D shape of metal fracture, and then using the available measuring method to calculate the fractal dimension from the reconstructed 3D shape. The system's operation cost that this paper talking about adopts the SFS calculation method of 3D reconstruction technology to make 3D reconstruction. Most of SFS calculation need to know the direction of light source before reconstructing, so first in this paper, we make contrast at the light source direction estimation calculation, based on this also make research and improvement in the Horn calculation, 3D reconstruction based on neural network, 3D reconstruction based on finite-element, choose the 3D reconstruction based on finite-element to reconstruct the 3D shape of metal fracture surface. Finally by using Small Island Method to calculate the fractal dimension of metal fracture surface 3D shape which is reconstructed by metal fracture surface's SEM image to get the fractal dimension of metal fracture surface.
