The term "nano" refers to a length scale based category that has been used in recent years to characterize a large variety of materials and associated phenomena. Self-assembly processes have been used widely to synthesize novel nanostructured materials. Through the use of these techniques, atoms, molecules, and particles arrange themselves into highly ordered structures that exhibit structure-selective properties. Bifunctional molecules containing different charge can be induced to form self-assembled monolayers or multilayers (SAMs) on a substrate. Another example of self-assembled materials is that of ordered mesoporous ceramics M41s, which were first reported by Mobil Oil Research. The ordered mesoporous materials were synthesized using self-assembled surfactant micelle structures as templates. These kinds of SAM have been used as model systems to understand surface properties and conformations of complex molecules. There are several synthesis strategies to arrive at nanostructured materials. One approach is to use the aggregation of small particles (atoms, molecules) for the preparation of nanoscale systems (e.g., metal clusters, supramolecular compounds by self-organization principles). Another approach is the sequential physical, chemical, or electrochemical deposition of homogeneous or heterogeneous multilayer materials with a single-layer thickness in the manometer range. Here, we invested the formation process of titanium oxide nanotubes at the different alkali concentration, and studied the thermal stability of the final product. Then, we used a simple method to synthesize anatase titania nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution from titanium butoxide in presence of hexadec-1-amine. The last, we presented a relatively easy and inexpensive synthesis procedure of silica nanotubes by converting layered kaolin clay, as a silica source, into stable nanotubes.
