Thermally sprayed coatings have been widely used in various applications to combat various surface degradation processes such as wear, erosion, corrosion, etc. They have also been widely used in aerospace, metallurgy, packaging, printing and papermaking industries instead of traditional plating technique. But it is still a problem for polishing these coatings with high quality and efficiency and low wastage, as thermally sprayed coatings have good degree of strength and corrosion-resistant character. Conventional simple cutting method has many disadvantages such as high cutting abrasion and poor efficiency. Then it is necessary for us to probe into a new polishing manner.In order to take further steps to realize the spread and application of tungsten carbide coatings in our country, a series of electropolishing experiments have been done. The electrolytes and additives chosen are harmless to us, high efficiency and economical. The device used in our electropolishing experiments has been refitted on a normal lathe, accompanied with some new designs. SCM and repeating motor are used to fulfil motive polishing. Then we have made many electropolishing experiments, applying impulse power supply. By perpendicularity experimentation, we have found that the main influence factors of electropolishing are ampere density, concentration of electrolyte, and eleetrolyzing interspace. Then we have changed each factor for a single factor experimentation to contrast the degree of roughness of each test specimen, After experiment has been improved on, the WC/Co coatings have been finished bright with roughness decreasing from Ra 4um to Ra 0. 69um.As a result, the spread and application of thermally sprayed coatings electropolishing are imperative.
