Using zeolite as biological carrier, the reactor is investigated to pretreat the micro-polluted raw water of a lake. The properties of zeolite are studied, as well as the capability of static and dynamic adsorption of organic pollutants and ammonia nitrogen. The efficiency of biological zeolite reactor on micro-polluted raw water treatment is analyzed, and the best running parameters have been searched. On that basis, the influence of the running and managing parameters such as the mode of acclimation, HRT, hydraulic loading, air-water ratio, backwashing that effect the removal efficiency has been discussed. The removal efficiency of biological zeolite reactor is compared with that of biological active carbon and bio-ceramic reactor. The effects of the biological zeolite reactor on following coagulation and disinfection process are discussed, and the best combined process of treating micro-polluted raw water has been put forward. By analysis, the economic benefit of traditional process combined with biological zeolite pretreatment is discussed. The combined process turns to be advanced and feasible in technology, and the cost can be reduced by 0. 43 fen per ton. Based on the experimental results and theoretical analysis, the appropriate mathematics models adaptable to biological zeolite reactor are found, and the appropriate model parameters are proved. The combined process with biological zeolite unit and conventional treatment is an economic and effective way for micro-polluted raw water treatment, and can supply more clean, stable and safe drinking water than single conventional process.
