The polyaniline was synthesized by chemical steps. The pyrolyzed polyaniline by extruding and high temperature pyrolytic under gas can become the cathode material of field emission. The electron field emission characteristics of the pyrolyzed polyaniline were measured in a super high vacuum system and bias. It can obtain a series of current densities and the curve of the Current density-Field and the Fowler-Nordheim was used to analyze the obtained results. The electron field emission characteristics of the pyrolyzed polyaniline were analyzed under the different pressure intensity, the pyrolytic time, the pyrolytic temperature and different gases. The microstructure of the pyrolyzed polyaniline was examined by using scanning electron microscopy(SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffraction, comparing and analyzing the pyrolyzed polyaniline under different pressure intensity and different pyrolytic requirements. The electron field emission characteristics of the pyrolyzed polyaniline were investigated. The electric fields for extracting 10 μ A/cm2 and 1 mA/cm2 current densities were measured to be about 1.64 and 5.18 V/μ m. The best current densities can reach 1.26 mA/cm2 at an electric field of 5.74 V/ μ m.
