The effect of the processing variables on the mechanical properties of tantalum sheets was investigated in this paper. The mechanical of different directions were tested. The microstructure of tantalum was observed using optical microscopy (OM). The diagram of annealing temperature-hardness was established. Also the texture of tantalum was tested by X-ray diffractometry. It showed that:(1) Castforg methods and rolling processes had an important effect on the properties and grain.Compared with side-forging,up-set forging was more suitable for finer grain ,primary tantalum rolling,reduced the anistropic properties of tantalum sheets and led to finer grain for tantalum sheets more effectively.(2) Upset forging and primary tandem rolling provided tantalum with strong {111} texture, however ,side forging and unidirectional rolling provided tantalum with {111} and {001} texture.
