Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal(PDLC)is a new kind of LCD mode and a compound material in which liquid crystal droplets is dispersed in the body of polymers. PDLC has two kinds state of transparence and dispersion under the switch function of electric field . With some excellent features, such as high contrast degree, fabricated simply and without polarizers, PDLC is used in many fields and absorb lots of attention of experts and enterprisers.In this paper fabricating excellent performance films of PDLC is the central task in our research .Therefore, large numbers of samples about PDLC are fabricated for contrasting ,and fine proportion, experiment condition obtained . The SEM (scan the electronic microscope)morphologies of PDLC is presented and some rules about preparation is concluded by contrast. Carry on tests to these PDLC films to get their electro-optic characteristic and we could acquire some important parameters to estimate the capability about PDLC. Some progress about bigger size( the A3 paper size) PDLC is won in this experiment. This kind of PDLC with symmetrical thickness, low switch voltage(about 10 V) is made successfully under the simple experiment condition, the display effect of which can answer for the require of application.A handy and simple method is presented for measuring the refractive index of PDLC materials. A wedgy box is made to fill with two samples which one is needed to determine the refractive index, and the other one is contrastive liquid measured the refractive index easily . Put the wedgy box into Michelson interferometer. What we should do is to note the alterative numbers of stripes severally when we move the wedgy box by a equipment made ourself. By use of contrasting we can simplicate steps , reduce the complicated calculation and get optimized results. We measure the refractive index of the PDLC and it is coincident with the results by other methods. Our experiments show that this method is easy to operate ,low-cost,and effective.For the measure of refractive index of thin transparent materials and other homologous materials,our method certainly have practical value.
