1. The Effect of Ethanol on Chemically Synthesized Polyaniline NanothreadThe strong intermolecular H-bonding between molecules of PANI and ethanol prevented widely PANI particles from aggregating together during polymerization. When the appropriate proportion ethanol was added to the solution, using ammonium persulphate ((NH4)2S2O8) as an oxidant, the regular nanothread of polyaniline (PANI) that average diameter is about 50 nm was prepared, the solution is composed of 0.4 mol dm-3 aniline, 1.0 mol dm-3 hydrochloric acid and ethanol. The resulting products were characterized using infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-vis spectra, transmission electron microscope (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) techniques and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The experimental results show that the content of ethanol has effects on the morphology of PANI, but the effects on the conductivity aren't very obvious. When the volume ratio of ethanol to aniline is 1:2, the more uniform and regular polyaniline nanothread can be prepared.2. Effect of Ethanol on Properties of Electrochemically Synthesized PolyanilineIn the presence of ethanol, nanofibers of interconnected network-like structures with polyaniline were electropolymerized using cyclic voltammetry method. The effects of ethanol on properties of polyaniline deposited on the two different platinum electrodes were investigated. The addition of ethanol makes polymerization rate of aniline faster and the redox reaction occur easier. The resulting products were characterized by FTIR spectra, UV-vis spectra and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The experimental...
