The New Beta-lactam Antibiotic Faropenem Synthesis Process Research

The synthetic process of a novel β-lactam antibiotic, Faropenem, was studied in this paper.The mechanism of all β-lactam antibiotics and the development of penem compounds were introduced simply in this paper. Faropenem, a new penem antibiotic was introduced in detail including its pharmacological properties and clinical effects. The synthetic process of Faropenem was researched particularly. Tetrahydrofunan-2-carboxylic acid and optically azetidinone were used as starting materials and the target compound was prepared via two routes including eight and nine steps of reaction respectively, the better one was studied in detail.This synthetic process gives total yeild to 32.9%.
