A brief view was given on origin, development and latest progress of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) in chapter 1. The interference from mass spectra and non mass spectra, ways to eliminate interference (for example, cool plasma, shield torch, collision and reaction cell) was introduced in details.A method was presented for the analysis of Cu, As, Pb, Cd, Se, Cr, Mn, Ni, Co, Zn and Mo in root and rootstalk herbs by microwave digestion-(ORS)-ICP-MS in chapter 2. The suitable sample preparation had been developed by analyzing two types of herbs. The microwave digestion condition was optimized from digestion system, proportion of acids and digestion procedure, which affords reference for the preparation of the same kinds of dried medicinal herbs. Parameters of ICP-MS, such as RF power, sampling depth, carrier gas, voltage of Octopole bia -s, Quadrupole bias, cell entrance, cell exit, flows of cell gas were optimized. Interference of polyatomic ions was eliminated dramatically by using ORS technology, which made the detection of trace elements more exactly. Detection limits of all analytes were between 0.001-0.260μg·g-1, the relative standard deviations were between 0.4-3.1% and the recoveries were between 90.0-110.0%.A method was established for the determination of soil available boron by boiling directly-ICP-MS in chapter 3. Filtration is not necessary in the recommended method so that contamination was minimized. Memory effect of boron had been eliminated by introducing hydrogen nitrate and ammonia liquor. The method was not only simple and rapid, but also precise and accurate. The method detection limit was 0.009 ng·g-1.The relative standard deviation was 2.7% and the recovery was 93.3-101.3% .A method was developed for the determination of 23 elements in mineral water in chapter 4. The experimental results showed the linear correlative coefficient for all elements were 1. Recoveries of spiked samples were 95.1-114.8%, RSDs were less than 3%. The analytical results of GSBZ5009-88 showed good agreement with certified reference values. The method was sample, rapid, sensitive and accurate, which meet the requirement for 23 elements in drinking...
