The piezoelectric materials have been widely used in the field of structural vibration control as a sort of smart materials because of their excellent mechanical-electrical coupling characteristics. Compared to active vibration control, semi-active vibration control with piezoelectric shunt damping technique needn't high voltage supplying to actuator, its structure is simple and easy to realize. So it is paid more and more attention by scholars of this field. There are some research work have been made by researchers in other countries, while the domestic work are in preliminary stage.In this thesis, the application of piezoelectric shunt damping technique to semi-active vibration control of a cantilever beam has been investigated theoretically and experimentally.Firstly, a lot of Chinese and English literatures are searched, and the domestic and international important developments and achievements are found out in this area. The main contents in this thesis are determined, and the practicability of this thesis is analyzed.Taking example for cantilever beam with RL shunt circuit, continuous partial differential equation model is established and dispersed to finite element model further. Numerical simulation is carried out with the finite element model and some important conclusions are obtained. Actual model is researched experimentally, the conclusions of numerical simulation are validated and the theoretical model is proofed to be correct thereby.The resonance inductance and optimal electric resistance correspond to vibration frequency are determined through actual model experiments and dominant frequency signal about vibrating system is collected experimentally through dummy device, the resonance inductance and optimal electric resistance value correspond to vibration frequency is transferred to the operating system EASYARM2200, real-time control on-line of vibrating system is realized by changing digital resistance and analogue inductance in circuit, which is realized by I2C string interface of ARM board.
