Industrialized synthesis of high purity monoglycerides by chemical group protection method has not been realized yet. There are few reports about the method to synthesis glycerol monostearate using MnOm/SO42- solid super acid as catalyst. There are also few reports about the way to synthesis glycerol mono-octanoate using p-toluene sulfonic acid as catalyst.Our research focused on the synthesis of glycerol monostearate and glycerol mono-octanoate by a series of reactions involving esterification, hydrolysis, etc using glycerol, boric acid, stearic acid, caprylic acid, etc as starting material. The structures of the target compounds have been characterized by IR and 1HNMR. The most commonly used MnOm/SO42- solid super acid which were used in the synthesis of boric acid-2-(3-stearic acyloxy-1, 2-propylene glycol) ester, have been prepared. Boric acid-2-(3- caprylic acyloxy-1, 2-propylene glycol) ester have been synthesized using p-toluene sulfonic acid as catalyst. The optimum conditions on the synthesis of glycerol monostearate and glycerol mono-octanoate have been defined through factor analysis method.The emulsification properties and solubleness of glycerol monostearate and glycerol mono-octanoate have been researched. The approximate HLB values of glycerol monostearate and glycerol mono-octanoate have been determined. And the thermal stability of glycerol monostearate, glycerol mono-octanoate and their intermediates have been researched through thermogravimetry.
