Salinomycin, one kind of monocarboxylic polyether with a special ring structure, is a typical ionophore-antibiotic. The antibiotic is widely received as a good veterinary drug, due to its efficient antimicrobial activity and low toxicity, rather simple fermentation techniques for production, low cost by using massively available agricultural byproducts as the major substrates, and environment-friendliness with low contamination.Salinomycin is industrially produced by streptomyces albus strains. This thesis focuses on the optimization of the fermentation conditions for higher and stable yield of Salinomycin. The substrates used for fermentation mainly from their yield ability of Salinomycin, cost, availability.Of the carbon sources, we mainly experimented with fish oil, peanut oil, animal grease, soybean oil, maize oil. After a series of pilot scale experiments, we chose soybean oil as the carbon source and the normal use amount for fermentation was optimized to 13%.For the nitrogen sources, there are many choices. From the results of our experiments, we chose a mixture of the inorganic NH4SO4 and organic cotton seed meal plus soybean meal as the nitrogen sources. The concentration of total nitrogen used is more than 2.0%.Then, we optimized the uses of the trace elements and inorganic salts for the fermentation medium. During the experiments, we found that MgSO4 is a key factor that is able to significantly affect the production of Salinomycin. Finally, the medium used for production of Salinomycin was comprehensively optimized.
