Epichlorohydrin-dimethylamine polymer flocculants were synthesized by polycondensation of epichlorohydrin and dimethylamine with modifying agents. The BT-04 flocculants was produced by epichlorohydein-dimethylamine and PAC. The industrialized production process was established and the equipment was selected based on the experimental research, and the BT-04 flocculants were produced successfully. The structure of the polymers was examined by means of various instrumental analysis techniques, including IR and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). The coagulation performance of BT-04 treating reactive real dyeing wastewater and oil refinery effluent and the coagulating conditions including the coagulant dosage and the pH of treated wastewater on the coagulation performance were studied in comparison with polyaluminum chloride (PAC). The coagulation mechanism of BT-04 was also investigated. The experimental results show that using epichlorohydrin-dimethylamine polymer flocculants together with PAC, not only can the better flocculation performance be achieved, it is also cost effective. BT-04 has good color removal efficiency (90%) but an ordinary COD removal result (60%) for real dyeing wastewater. In addition, pH value has a little effect on the coagulation performance of BT-04. So, it is concluded that the composite flocculant BT-04 inorganic-organic, which combines the advantages of both inorganic and organic coagulant, is characterized by stronger charge-neutralizing capacity, stronger bridge-forming capacity, lower dosage, cost effective, wide range of application, and good coagulation performance. Hence, BT-04 has a good application prospect.
