In this work, several methods of the support pretreatment, the dilution using support C, treatment methods of microwave heating and ultrasonic treatment in the preparation process of the Ru/C catalysts were studied. The hydrogenation performance of the catalysts was determined by the glucose hydrogenation. The regularities were discussed to offer scientific evidences for the preparation of the better noble metal catalysts supported by the activated carbon.The activated carbon was used as the support for preparation of the supported Ru catalysts. The support was treated by acid, base, oxidants and air. And the acid and base amount on the surface of the activated carbon was tested. BET, Roman, SEM, XRD and TPR were applied to characterize the activated carbon and the Ru/C catalysts. The results showed that the proper acid amount on the support favoured the hydrogenation activity of the catalysts, and the destory of the strong oxidants on the pore structure of the activated carbon decreased hydrogenation activity of the catalysts.The Ru/C catalysts were diluted by the activated carbon to obtain a series of mechanical mixtures Ru/C+C. Mass spectrography testified that the hydrogen spillover occurred in the process of catalyst reduction and the reaction between the active spillover hydrogen and the activated carbon generated methane. TPR showed that the dilution of the activated carbon had obvious effect on the hydrogen spillover and the hydrogenation activity of the Ru/C catalysts. The dilution of the activated carbon made the hydrogen spillover over the Ru/C catalysts strong, and the proper hydrogen spillover favoured the hydrogenation activity of the catalysts.The Ru/C catalysts were prepared by the method of microwave heating impregnation, and the results showed that the microwave impregnation could improve the hydrogenation performance of the Ru/C catalysts. The Ru/C catalysts prepared by common method were treated by microwave radiation, and the results showed that the microwave treatment for Ru/C catalysts after their preparation also could improve the hydrogenation performance of the Ru/C catalysts.The Ru/C catalysts were prepared by the method of ultrasonic impregnation, the results showed that the ultrasonic impregnation could improve the hydrogenation performance of the Ru/C catalysts. The Ru/C catalysts prepared by common method were treated by ultrasonic, and the results showed that the microwave treatment for Ru/C catalysts after their preparation could improve the hydrogenation performance of the Ru/C catalysts if the treatment time was proper.
