As the lack of cobalt and nickel resources which are importantstrategic resources in China, the recycling and reuse of cobalt and nickelscraps are significant in the view of economic efficiency and resourcerecycling, The present work studied on the solvent purification and thematerial preparation in the recycling process of cobalt and nickelsecondary resources, aiming at the component of typical raw material ofthe recycling techniques. The preparation technique consists of thefollowing processes: the removal of impurities by the pretreatment—theadvanced removal of the residual impurities by P204 solvent extractionthe separation of Co and Ni by P507 solvent extraction—the preparationof the cobalt and nickel materials. The method of ferrum-removal by combining carphosiderite andnatrojarosite was adopted, of which the content of Co and Ni in theresidue was low and the removal rate of Fe was over 99.8%. The methodof chromic-removal by anhydrous sodium sulfite was also adopted, ofwhich the removal rate of Cr achieved 99.3%, and the optimum technicalconditions were determined through the single factor experiments.According to the characteristics of the raw materials in this work, theeffective separation of Fe, Cr from Co and Ni was successfully achievedby the chemical pretreatment techniques; moreover, the direct recoveryrate of Co and Ni was high.Solvent extraction was utilized here for the advanced removing of theresidual impurities and the advanced separation of Co and Ni. P204 wasselected as the extractant for the advanced removal of impurities.Through the study on the single factor such as temperature, extractantdosages, saponification rate, concentration of cobalt ions, pH value of thewater phase and so on, the optimum technical conditions were determined. It's proved that the excellent effect of the extractant P204 for theadvanced purification of Co and Ni solution under the optimumconditions. Then, the extractant P507 was utilized to the advancedseparation of Co and Ni. The result of the experiment showed that theseparation rate of Co and Ni was over 99.8%, which benefited the subsequent process, i.e. the preparation of cobalt and nickel materialswith high purity. The physical parameters such as morphology and particle size ofCo and Ni fine products were investigated systematically in a series ofcontrast experiments by controlling of chemosynthesis andreductive-decomposition, which led to the controlling conditions requiredby various types of the products.According to the characteristics of the materials, the present workdetermined the optimum technical conditions for each process, which willcontribute a new technical scheme to the industrialized practice andproduction.
